Hemendra Kothari Fellowship

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FROM III Semester M.Sc ESRM, CSP, PBT and Geo Science 2017

TERI SAS with support from Hemendra Kothari Foundation, Wildlife Conservation Trust, Mumbai provides merit fellowship to MSc students of Environmental Studies and Resource Management (ESRM), Climate Science and Policy(CSP), Geo-informatics(GEO), Plant Biotechnology (PBT) for initiating projects /research ideas that synergizes with the work areas of Hemendra Kothari Foundation and TERI SAS. The foundation extensively works for Wildlife Protection in India (www.wildlifeconservationtrust.org).

Eligibility

MSc III semester students of ESRM, CSP, PBT and Geo Science are eligible to apply for the Hemendra Kothari Fellowship .

Submission of proposals

Eligible students of Msc III semester shall submit a proposal in Microsoft Word in the format suggested in the Annexure along with a covering letter expressing interest in the proposed area of work and forwarded through a faculty at TERI SAS who has agreed to be the supervisor and mentor to the applicant. Criteria for selection

Following shall be the criteria for selection of the proposals.

  • Clarity in aim and objectives, proposal quality and feasibility of implementation.
  • Proposal that contributes to the priority ‘Areas of Work’ of the Hemendra Kothari Foundation (see www.wildlifeconservationtrust.org) and research presently being undertaken at TERI SAS.
  • A proposal that addresses an emergent issue in the aforementioned areas of work and opens up future scope of research at the University
  • Clear articulation of tangible and verifiable output/outcomes.
  • The proposal does not exceed the budgetary limit of Rs 60,000 and provides justification of the expenditure against the budget heads.

 

Communication on selected proposals

Communication will be sent only to the successful proponents who will make a presentation to the Fellowship Committee/ respond to clarification, queries or suggestions. Students will resubmit the revised proposal after incorporating the comments/ suggestions (if any) received after the evaluation process.

Important Deadlines for submission and implementation

25 Nov 2016 - Submission of the proposal
10 Dec 2016 - Communication to the winning applicants
15 Jan 2017 - Release of the first installment of the fellowship to the grantee
25 Mar 2017 - Submission of the first interim report to the fellowship committe
15 Apr 2017 - Release of the second installment to the grantee
30 May 2017 - Submission of the Final Report to Fellowship Committee

Disbursement of the Fellowship

The grant approved by the fellowship committee will be released to the winning proposals in three installments:

  • First installment: 50% of the approved grant will be released on signing of the letter of acceptance and the terms and conditions by the student.
  • Second installment: 40 % of the project budget after two months of submission of an interim report to the satisfaction of the fellowship committee duly forwarded by the supervisor.
  • 10 % of the balance fellowship after submission of the final report and its acceptance by the fellowship committee.

 

Submission of Annual Report to Hemendra Kothari Foundation

The final report submitted by the students will be compiled and an annual report will be submitted to the Hemendra Kothari Foundation. The Awardees will make a presentation at a Seminar Organized by the Fellowship Committee.

Civil Society Leadership Awards

This year The Open Society Foundations is offering fellowships to international candidates to study any one of the following 4 programmes at TERI SAS:

  • Master of Arts in Sustainable Development Practice
  • Master of Science in Climate Science and Policy
  • Master of Science in Environmental Studies and Resource Management
  • Master of Science in Economics

 

Scholarship details:
These fellowships are supported by "The Civil Society Leadership Awards" (CSLA). Under the CSLA, fully funded master's level scholarships would be available to students from the following countries:

Maneesh Manjunath Scholarship

TERI SAS announces Maneesh Manjunath Scholarship for the Fourth semester students. The scholarship is in the memory of TERI SAS alumnus Maneesh Manjunath (M.A SDP 2010-12) with support from Kaushal Rastogi (M.Tech 2010-12) and Pankaj Singh (M.Tech 2009-11). Proposals are invited for projects/ideas which aim towards sustainable development of the society. Scholarship of INR 30,000 will be awarded to winning project proposal for implementation in a time frame of six months.

Eligibility

Third semester students of all the streams are eligible to apply for the Maneesh Manjunath Scholarship. (for projects in fourth semester).

Submission of proposals

Students can submit the project proposal individually or as a group by 31st October 2017. We encourage submission of research proposals as well as proposals for a project to develop innovative and practical solutions to overcome any developmental and/or environmental challenges.

The proposal should be submitted in Microsoft Word in the format suggested in the Annexure along with a covering letter expressing interest in the proposed area of work and forwarded through a faculty at TERI SAS who has agreed to be the supervisor and mentor to the applicant.

  5. The proposal does not exceed the budgetary limit of INR 30,000 and provides justification of the expenditure against the budget heads.
  6. Priority will be given to candidates with no other internal or external source of funding.

31st October 2017 (COB): Submission of the proposal
30th November 2017: Communication to the winning applicant/s
22 December 2017: Release of the first installment of the fellowship
16 February 2018 (COB): Submission of the interim report to the fellowship committee
23 February 2018: Release of the second installment to the student, subject to satisfactory progress
20 June 2018 (COB): Submission of the final report with an abstract (Maximum 1000 words) to Fellowship Committee
29 June 2018: Completion of the evaluation and release of balance fellowship to the Student
31 July 2018 (COB): Submission of Annual Report to Committee
