    Nithiyanandam Yogeswaran

    Dr. Nithiyanandam is an interdisciplinary scholar basically a Physicist, and later shifted to Geo-Informatics. He submitted his Ph.D. thesis to the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics which is ranked No.1 among Geo-informatics departments. The Ph.D. topic "Anthropogenic heat flux estimation over Hong Kong - A multi-modelling approach" is a multidisciplinary study comprising of environmental sciences, remote sensing, GIS, thermodynamics, climatology, urban studies, and computer programming. It is a collaborative research effort between two European universities, one local university, and diverse government agencies from Hong Kong.

    He was a visiting researcher in University of Gothenburg and King"s College London during his Ph.D. He is one among the contributors of global anthropogenic heat flux model called LUCY. During his Ph.D. he was a site manager for the NASA"s AERONET station. He was also co-ordinating a massive Urban Heat Island (UHI) field work conducted in Hong Kong during 2013, involves helicopter thermography, satellite images, vehicle traversing and other surface measurements. Before his Ph.D., he was a project associate in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering division of IIT Madras for two years. He is a member of several professional societies and also a student co-ordinator for India in International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), and Asian Society for Geo-Informatics (ASG).

    His primary research interests are thermal remote sensing, urban micro climate, algorithm development, LIDAR applications, ocean remote sensing, GIS applications, numerical modelling, GPS applications for weather and climate, water quality monitoring, waste water management, aerial surveying and remote sensing of landscapes.
