Bhawna Bali
Assistant Professor,
Department of Energy and Environment

Dr Bhawna Bali is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Policy Studies at the TERI University, New Delhi. An alumnus of the Panjab University, Chandigarh, she has academic training in the discipline of Urban Geography, with an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in the subject. Prior to joining the TERI University, she taught Geography of Tourism, Geography and Research Methodology at ITFT College (near Chandigarh) as well as practical courses on cartography and quantitative techniques in Geography during the tenure of her Ph.D. at the Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

At the TERI University, she is associated with the M.Tech. Urban Development and Management (UDM) programme, wherein she teaches three core courses, viz. Urban Development Policies and Programmes, Theories of Urbanization, and City and Regional Planning and Management. She has been involved in funded research projects, broadly in the domain of urban development in India, and on diverse thematic areas including sustainable urban development, city development planning processes in heritage cities, provision of basic services in the peri-urban areas, and urban WASH. Her research interests primarily include urban development, processes of urbanization and urban policies, and her work mostly involves qualitative and mixed methods approach.

In addition to teaching and research engagements, she delivers lectures on urbanization at the university workshops; and organizes capacity building training programmes in urban WASH for Urban Local Body officials and other stakeholders; and seminars on issues of sustainable urban development, qualitative research methods and research supervision skills. She also coordinates M.Tech. UDM student internships with Municipal Corporations and parastatals.
